Jess Bucy, a 1948 graduate of Rector High School and former athlete, high school coach, and superintendent has been selected by the RHS Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee, as its first honoree for the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame. Coach Bucy spent 15 years as coach and school administrator at Rector, as well as 21 years as Harding University’s Head Basketball Coach.
The First Annual Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be held at the school cafeteria at 12:00 p.m. on August 30. A full biography on coach Bucy will be given at the induction by former RHS players. All former lettermen of any sports, family, and friends are invited to attend. The ticket cost for the program is $10. Tickets may be purchased from Roma Nell Sanders, 566-2341, Tracy Horton, 595-3855, or other selection committee members.

LUNCHEON AND CAPITAL FUND DRIVE
The Rector High School (RHS) Sports Hall of Fame has been created for the primary purpose of providing permanent recognition to the athletic heritage of the outstanding student-athletes that have attended Rector High School and its legacy schools; Greenway High School and Clay County Central. The mission of this Organization is to uphold the standards and prestige of the Rector High School athletic program and to encourage and promote higher education through scholarship awards to those athletes who demonstrate courage and sacrifice during their athletic careers.
The Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors has received permission from Rector School District to create a Hall of Fame at Rector High School. The proposed location of the Sports Hall of Fame is the mezzanine at the high school gym.
The RHS Sports Hall of Fame Board is planning the first annual Awards Luncheon to be held during Labor Day week-end. Each year the Board will honor outstanding athletes from the past. The 2008 honoree will be recognized on Saturday , August 30, 2008, at 12:00 noon in the Rector High School cafeteria. The food will be prepared and served by The Whisk and the cost of the meal is $10.00 each. The awards ceremony will follow the meal. Graduating lettermen of 2008 (men and women) will be quests of the Board at the luncheon. In Rector, tickets are available from Roma Nell Sanders.
The RHS Sports Hall of Fame Board is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame Capital Fund Drive Campaign. The primary purpose of this fund drive is to raise funds to create a Sports Hall of Fame Wall to be installed at Rector High School. The immediate goal of the RHS Sports Hall of Fame Board is to unveil a Sports Hall of Fame display case at the Second Annual Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2009. Later goals include the awarding of scholarships to deserving student/athletes.
Member Sponsorship Levels for the Capital Fund Drive Campaign include the following:
Founding Sponsors: $500 and above for individuals; $1,000 and above for businesses
Charter Sponsors: $250 - $499; $500-$999 for businesses
Winners Sponsors: $100 - $249;$250-$499 for businesses
Team Player Sponsors: $10 to $99; $100-$249 for businesses
All sponsors will be recognized on the RHS Sports Hall of Fame web site and in the 2008 Induction Ceremony program. Founders sponsors will be enshrined on a plaque displayed in the Hall of Fame trophy case, will receive a certificate suitable for framing and will receive the biannual Hall of Fame newsletter and a lifetime membership card. Also, their names will be included in the luncheon program and all founders will also be lifetime members of the Hall of Fame organization. A plaque recognizing business sponsors will be presented to the recipient at the annual luncheon/banquet. Charter sponsors will be lifetime members of the Hall of Fame organization. All charter members will receive the biannual Hall of Fame newsletter and a lifetime membership card and a certificate suitable for framing and their names will be included in the luncheon program. Winners sponsors will receive a membership card, a certificate suitable for framing, and the biannual Hall of Fame newsletter and their names will be included in the luncheon program. Team player sponsors will receive a membership card and the biannual Hall of Fame newsletter.
